In 2024, Messi traveled to El Salvador to face the national team of that nation with Inter Miami, now in 2005 he could go to another country in Central America, specifically Panama, which is negotiating to bring the Argentine to the canal country.

Nino Mangravita, presenter of Tigo Sports Panama, said that a successful businessman in the Central American country told him that there was a good chance that Inter Miami would travel to face a team from the Panamanian league.

“I just got a call from a very important businessman here in Panama, above all serious, who told me that there is a great possibility that Inter Miami with Messi, with Alba, with Busquets, with Suárez, the whole cast, will come to Panama to play a friendly match against a team from the LPF” he says in the video that he uploaded to his ‘X’ account.

If the match takes place on Panamanian soil, it would be the third Central American country that the world champion in Qatar 2022 has visited. He previously visited Guatemala in 2013, in Argentina’s 4-0 victory with a Messi hat-trick against the Chapina team, and El Salvador last year in the goalless draw, now with Inter Miami.

Messi also played in a friendly match in Costa Rica in 2011, but to the disappointment of all the fans who gathered in San Jose, the former Barcelona player did not get any minutes.

It should be noted that in early December, media in Honduras also spoke about negotiations for the ‘Herons’ to face Inter Miami in January. For now, no match on Central American soil has been confirmed.

For now, Messi and Inter Miami have two preseason matches scheduled. On Saturday, January 18, they will face America in Las Vegas, and on February 14, they will face Orlando City at Raymond James Stadium.
