NBA, the sequel: Dylan Harper, son of the guard of the former transformers Ron Harper, joins the second generation fraternity full of jams
Second generation NBA players are abundant and why not?

Dylan Harper, the second choice in the draft of the NBA on Wednesday, is the last grass star whose father was decorated in front of him. Ron Harper closed a 15-year-old NBA career by winning five NBA championships in his last six seasons, back-to-back titles with the Lakers in 2000 and 2001 after three with the Chicago Bulls in 1996, ’97 and ’98.

Dylan, a 6 feet guard and 5 of Rutgers, was enrolled by the San Antonio Spurs. Even his brother, Ron Harper Jr., is in the NBA, having played in 11 games for Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors in the last three years.
In any other sport, the offspring of a former player star that rises to the highest level would be particularly noteworthy. That Ron Harper’s children are on the cusp of similar careers since their father was nothing out of the ordinary.

Lebron James and his eldest son, Bronny, became the first father-child duo to take the court at the same time in the opening of the Lakers season last October. But this is just one of the many dynamics of a son who chooses the same career path towards his father’s NBA.

The phenomenon dates back for a long time. Two children of the legend of Minneapolis Lakers George Mikan-a center of five times all-nba in the early 1950s-they have enrolled in the NBA, with one, Larry, playing 53 games in 1970-71.
During a 15 -year career that ended in 1964, the center of the Hall of Fame Dolph Shayes marked on average 18.5 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. His son, Danny Shayes, has passed his dad in the longevity of his career, playing from 18 years to 1999 for seven teams, including a short period with the Lakers.

Butch Van Breda Kolff played four seasons in the 1940s and 1976, his son, Jan, became the first player to face a team coached by his father when Jan played for New York networks while Butch trained New Orleans jazz. Butch also trained the Lakers at the NBA finals in 1968 and ’69, where both Celtics lost both times.
Other children who have faced teams trained by their fathers – who also played in the NBA – include Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Sr., Coby and George Karl and Austin and Doc Rivers.
Austin Rivers also became the first to play for his father in a game of the NBA when he was exchanged with the clippers in 2015. At the beginning, he was not electrified when his father called to notify him of the proposed agreement.
“He called me and asked me if” this was something you could be interested because we need you, “Austin said at his introductory press conference.” When I heard it, it was one of those things I had to think, take one day for me and be like, “could it work?”

“And it does so, only for the relationship I have with him. It is already a little basketball-oriented … it is not as the father-child. It is a bit like a coach player and then off the pitch, we take care of this in a different way.”
The children who have achieved more than their father abound. Dell Curry was not enchanted, with an average of 11.7 points and earning $ 19.8 million in a 16 -year -old career that ended in 2002. A son, Seth, is in his eleventh season, having an average of 10 points while earning $ 45 million.

The other son of Dell, Stephen, is a certain Hall of Famer, recognized as perhaps the best pure shooter in history. He led the Golden State Warriors to four NBA titles while on average 24.4 points and earning $ 357.8 million in 16 seasons.

Klay Thompson was a teammate of Steph Curry in all four teams of the Warriors championship and has an average of 19.1 points while earning $ 268.8 million in 12 seasons. This easily eclipses the Exploit of the Local Father, Mychal Thompson, who won two titles with the Lakers before becoming an broadcaster with the team and a radio personality.
The list of Duos Father-Figlio is too long to mention them all. Here is a handful.
Three children of the guard of the Hall of Fame Rick Barry played in the NBA, with Brent who was successful. The UCLA Mike Biby product passed his father playing 14 years at Henry’s nine. Kevin Love beat his father, but the association of Stan Love with the beach boys has distinguished himself.

And, of course, there are more Lakers ties.
Luke Walton equaled his father with two NBA championships and also trained the Lakers, but was unable to reach the cult status of Bill Walton, a legend of the UCLA whose eccentricity and out of measure personality transcended his successes on the field.
The former Laker who actually transcendent not only his father’s career, but that of almost all the players was Kobe Bryant. His father, Joe (Jellybean) Bryant, died last July, four years after his son died tragically in a helicopter accident that also took the life of his daughter, Gianna and seven others.

The fracture of the relationship between Kobe and his father is well chronic and rarely spoke after Kobe married his wife, Vanessa.
Dylan Harper’s relationship with his father is stronger, although Ron Harper divorced Dylan’s mother in 2012. He raised his two children and a single mother as a single mother who also trained high school basketball and manages a travel program.
Maria Harper, a former player of the I Division I at the University of New Orleans, was a coach of children’s assistants when his children played Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey.
“It was hard but loving,” Dylan said to Athletic in 2023. “Not even she wasn’t hard with me. Everyone had a little bit of it.”

Ron Sr. moved near his ex -wife in 2007. Yet he indicated the recruiters to Mary when Dylan was courted by colleges.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of him, but I don’t want this to concern me,” he said at that moment.
Yet, like every father, Ron Sr. was proud of his son’s results.
“When Dylan was 5 years old, I told people that she would be really good,” he said. “He reminded me of me.”
Dylan Harper could overcome his father’s results in the way Bryant and Curry have done – or they can’t do it. In addition to winning five titles, Ron Harper scored on average 13.8 points and 3.9 assists in 1,009 NBA matches.
Announcement
In any case, Dylan is about to join a long list of players whose fathers focused on a path that followed.
