North London Derby Preview, Predictions & Lineups

The North London Derby is underway and it is the Emirates who will host for the first time in 2025/26. Tottenham have a miserable record at Arsenal’s home ground.
Supporters are still yearning for a repeat of 2010, when Harry Redknapp’s Spurs overcame a 2-0 half-time deficit to win 3-2, thanks to an 84th-minute winner from Younes Kaboul. The Lilywhites have only won once in the other north London half since, it was the Dele Alli game in 2018, but it was a Carabao Cup draw.
The visitors are therefore unlikely to claim a positive result on Sunday, especially as Arsenal are four points clear at the top of the Premier League table. I say this reluctantly and with envy flowing through my fingers as I type, but the Gunners are one of the best in Europe and are favorites to end their 21-year wait for a league title.
However, they were rumbled by Sunderland before the break, and I have no doubt that there are a few Gooners going into the derby a little worried. Thomas Frank’s Lilywhites could prove troublesome opposition, and even a point for the hosts would be a distinct disappointment.
The two teams met in the first ever North London Derby played abroad, with Spurs winning 1-0, but it will be a totally different experience for Frank.
Here’s our preview of Sunday’s crucial clash.

Arsenal team news
Arsenal go into the derby with a series of injury doubts, and Mikel Arteta is remaining tight-lipped on the status of those in question.
With Kai Havertz suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury and will not be back until next month, it is possible that Martin Ødegaard and Viktor Gyökeres could both be involved. It seems less likely that Noni Madueke and Gabriel Jesus will make their respective returns.
Gabriel is also out with a thigh injury, and Arteta will likely turn to Piero Hincapié or Cristhian Mosquera to replace him. Riccardo Calafiori should be fit.
Arsenal predicted lineup against Tottenham: Raya; Bois, Saliba, Hincapié, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Riz, Eze; Saka, Gyökeres, Trossard.
Tottenham team news
Frank, on the contrary, was more than willing to provide updates on his contingent of injured players. The Dane confirmed that Mohammed Kudus had been training ahead of the derby, so the Ghanaian should be expected to be back in the starting XI, having missed three games before the international break.
Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr are also available, while Randal Kolo Muani is expected to channel his inner 2016 Harry Kane and wear a mask for the derby. I start the Frenchman on Sunday, despite the blow he received against Man Utd.
Dominic Solanke remains absent, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski long-term absentees. Xavi Simons could start on the left with Destiny Udogie in the team.
Tottenham predicted lineup against Arsenal: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kudus, Sarr, Xavi; Kolo Muani.
Arsenal vs Tottenham score prediction
These are the games we’re supposed to thrive in under Frank, right?
The patterns of the UEFA Super Cup and victory at the Etihad should be repeated this weekend, against an Arsenal team banking on control. We cannot let them dictate terms and territory. We will be easy targets.
A courageous approach without the ball is required, although there will be times when we have to dig in and resist the inevitable waves of pressure the hosts might experience. They are good enough to do it. Overall, I’m expecting a short derby devoid of big moments, and a quiet 1-1 draw would do us just fine.
But I’m incredibly optimistic.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham
