Odegaard injury sours landmark Arsenal win as Saka hits new milestone
Arsenal extended its undefeated start to the Premier League season with a dominant 2-0 victory against West Ham, but the afternoon was overshadowed by another injury setback for Captain Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian midfielder lasted only 32 minutes before lodging after a knee knee confrontation. Concern, he has now become the first premier League player to be replaced before half-time due to an injury in three consecutive championship games this season.
Odegaard left the stadium with a knee splint, and although Mikel Arteta refused to speculate on gravity, the signs were not encouraging.
“I just talked to him, he is not positive,” admitted the boss of Arsenal. “We will have to wait and see by the doctors. We did not have much luck with that either. He is our captain and a player who gives us a completely different dimension, especially by attacking. I hope it is not so bad.”
It was a frustrating moment in what should have been a day of celebration for Arteta. The Spaniard marked his 300th match in charge of the club with another declaration victory. Arsenal was controlling the first whistle, marking first half at Declan Rice and later from a penalty by Bukayo Saka. They rarely look troubled afterwards.
Martin Zubimenddi came out of the bench to help see the match after Ingaard’s injury forced a reshuffle in the midfield.
Arteta was delighted with the way her team responded to recent disappointments against West Ham, after losing their two previous home meetings.
“We have had very difficult lights since the start of the season, very bad injuries, without helping, and the team occurs, plays well and wins today with absolute domination,” he said.
“It’s good to go to an international break during this period.”
Saka’s contribution recalled how the young Arsenal star has already arrived. The 24 -year -old did his 200th appearance in the Premier League, achievement 100 objective involvement in the process. “When you look at these figures, it’s incredible,” said Arteta. “At his age, what he does and the way he does is really impressive. This is the kind of player we need to achieve what we want.”
There were also injury problems concerning Rice, who left with back pain in the second period. But the result maintains Arsenal in the title of title before a series of more indulgent lights after the international break. The side of Arteta has the chance to take momentum, assuming that they can keep their key men in shape.
