Overlooked Arsenal transfer is about to look like the summer’s biggest steal

Arsenal made plenty of deals in the 2025 summer transfer window, but arguably none were more important than Cristhian Mosquera.

Which is crazy to say. Cristhian Mosquera isn’t even good enough to start for Arsenal, and yet he’s their biggest transfer of the summer… It doesn’t add up, does it?

Listen to us. The only reason Cristhian Mosquera isn’t good enough to start for Arsenal is because they already have the best central defender duo in the world. It’s not Mosquera’s fault that he was placed in the best defense in the world.

But this is where Mosquera comes in.

Before Mosquera’s signing, Arsenal boasting William Saliba and Gabriel was to their detriment. They relied too much on the duo, and when one of them was absent, who was there to replace them? Jakub Kiwior? That’s simply not good enough for a title-contending team.

Arsenal’s overlooked transfer is about to become more crucial

Now that Cristhian Mosquera is in the fray, Arsenal have three centre-backs who could start for most Premier League teams.

Unfortunately, Gabriel is injured. He has been Arsenal’s most crucial defender this season, even getting involved in Arsenal’s set-piece trend. Well, that’s the understatement of the year, but alas.

Rumor has it he could miss a month or even two months of action. This is a huge blow for Arsenal, and it comes at a crucial time in their season.

Everyone knows that the holiday period is the busiest period in both English and European competitions. Even leaving Gabriel gone for a month would be painful, but two months would be unbearable.

Mosquera, however, has already proven that he can step in and fill that defensive void. He replaced William Saliba at the start of this season, and Arsenal fans never even realized Saliba was out of the picture.

Mosquera has already played well partnering Gabriel consistently, but now let’s see how he performs with Saliba. Hell, he might even play alongside Piero Hincapie for all we know, Mikel Arteta was clearly proud of this defensive partnership shortly before the international break.

Not much was expected of Mosquera when he first signed, but it will be good to see him get more playing time over the festive period. If only it was due to turnover rather than necessity, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Having Mosquera ready to step in, with Piero Hincapie now also on red alert, it highlights how Arsenal’s sloppy transfer activities could keep them in the title race.
