Pelicans-Wiizards Trade: CJ McCollum-For-Jordan Poole Swap is a kind of skyscraper for one side

The commercial season of the NBA is officially underway.
Less than a day after Boston sent Jrue Holiday to Portland for Amphernee Simons – who followed the Kevin Durant trade on Sunday – The Washington Wizards and New Orleans of New Orleans exchanged guards.
Announcement
CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk are directed to Washington, together with a future selection of the second round, in exchange for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey and the 40th overall choice in the draft of the NBA on Wednesday.
This is a bit of thinker, so we enter well, starting from the Pellicans.
The organization has been shaved at around $ 6 million in this trade, providing them with the necessary flexibility under the first apron, to the point where they should be able to use the entire non -fiscal medium -level exception (expected for a value of $ 14.1 million).
The interesting thing is that the Pellicans have taken on long -term money, while McCollum and Olynyk are both entering the last year of their agreements.
Announcement
This is – presumably – made to give us more opportunities with Poole, who has just turned 26. Although he is still an excellent shooter, McCollum will turn 34 years before the start of the next season.
In short, the young Poole could conceively build a higher commercial value in New Orleans, which the organization could use later.
Poole (20.5 points, 4.5 assists) is coming out for a year of rebound after a disappointing debut season in Washington. His efficiency came up to 59.1% of true recovery, and leaning on his 3 -point shot, attempting 622 of them in just 68 games.
Of course, the Pellicans should have further banned the improvement of Poole, or at least remain on its current course, to have a significant commercial value along the line.
So, to recapitulate this strangeness: the Pellicans spare immediate money, which allows them flexibility this summer, but take on future money in the hope of transforming it into something good along the line.
Announcement
Was this the best use of over $ 44 million in expiring money? It is highly questionable.
For Washington, the path to their logic is much simpler.
This team has acquired several older players in recent times, such as Khris Middleton, Marcus Smart and now McCollum.
They are large cultural sectors and enormous appearances in the changing room. Their contracts also align, while they expire at the end of the next season.
In essence, the Wizards are creating a highly professional environment for their young core in which to thrive, and everything they had to give up were players who were not married in the long term.
The Wizards will enter the low season of 2026 with the money to burn and can choose whether to spend it for players to accelerate their time sequence or rent their own space for compensation for cutting.
Announcement
Washington’s flexibility is now among the best of the League, which is another strong indicator that their reconstruction is going quite well.
Grade for New Orleans: C (but potential for the highest)
