We participate in a high -end confrontation in Leigh Sports Village against Manchester United on Sunday.

Skinner: “Arsenal will be fresh, we have no doubt about it, but we will have to have different game plans. No doubt. We cannot just put pressure for all 90, and Arsenal cannot really be fresh, so we must be able to adapt.

“We are at home, so we want to continue our excellent start to the season. We are looking forward to, but it will be a challenge. Arsenal has marked the same number of objectives as we, so we know that it is a difficult demand, but we believe in ourselves.”

Facts and statistics

United has won none of its last four WSL meetings with us (D2 L2), since a 1-0 home victory in April 2023 thanks to a goal from Alessio Russo.

We have won two of our last three games against United (D1), as many victories as our first eight games with the Red Devils in all competitions (W2 D2 L4).

We scored five goals for the fifth time in the WSL under Renée Slegers the last time against West Ham. We on average 3.4 goals per match under it, the best rate of any manager in the history of the competition.

We won our first two championship games this season, despite the follow-up of 1-0 in both, the first time in the history of WSL that we won consecutive matches from behind. In fact, if we come from behind to win on Sunday, we will become the first team in WSL history to lose in three consecutive games but win them all.

Russo scored 48 goals in 91 WSL matches and could become the fifth fastest player to reach half a century of strikes in the competition (after Vivianne Miedema 50, Khadija Shaw 57, Sam Kerr 62 and Fran Kirby 75).

Civil servant

Kirsty Dowle was appointed to supervise the match on Sunday. This will be his first WSL match of the season after taking care of the clashes of the Ligue two in recent weeks.

His latest involvement in one of our games was in fact the trip of last season to Manchester United, when we drew 1-1 at Leigh Sports Village thanks to the goals of Russo and Malard.

The last time we met

It was a thriller of seven goals at the Emirates Stadium to finish the WSL campaign last season at the top.

After only took two minutes for Chloe Kelly to give us an early advance, Ella Toone reduced the arrears a few moments later.

The goals of Mariona Caldentey, Frida Maanum and Kim Little gave us a three -way cushion in the second half, but Terland and the Tissier showed the match sheet later to plant a seed of doubt.
