Toronto Raptors had a serious shock in their front office only one day after the conclusion of the NBA draft of 2025.
The franchise separated with the president and vice -president Masai Ujiri, who spent 13 years with the organization.
“During his 13 seasons with the Raptors, Masai contributed to transforming the organization into the field and was an inspirational leader,” said the president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Keith Pelley in a note. “He brought an NBA championship to Toronto and urged us to believe in this city, and ourselves. We are grateful for everything he has done and we wish him and his family the best.”
Ujiri, 54, joined the Raptors in 2013 as an executive vice president and general manager. He was promoted to the president of the team in 2016 and delivered his responsibilities as GM in 2017. He was entering the last year of his contract with the Raptors.
In his role, Ujiri contributed to leading the Raptors to their first championship in the history of franchise in 2019, swinging an exchange for Kawhi Leonard in July 2018.
While Leonard remained in Toronto only for one season, he made him count. The Raptors made their first NBA finals in 2018-19 and defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games to consolidate their first and only title.
The Raptors made the playoffs only twice since Leonard started in July 2019 to join the Los Angeles Clippers in the free agency. The team finished 30-52 in 2024-25, losing the NBA play-in tournament. Has obtained choice n. 9 In the draft and used it on the attacker of the Carolina of the South Collin Murray-Boyles.
The Raptors said their research for the replacement of Ujiri will start immediately. Another key staff of the Front Office will remain on the spot, with GM Bobby Webster receiving an extension of the contract.
“We are confident that the organization of the Raptors, under the guidance of Bobby and its team, is in a fantastic place,” said Pelley. “They have a plan taking place for the next season and beyond while the team continues its reconstruction and we have confidence in their ability to perform and, ultimately, to excel”.
As expected, Cooper Flagg went first to Dallas Mavericks. The 76er enlisted Baylor’s Third Absolute VJ Edgecombe. Here’s how the rest of the Top 10 of 2025 NBA took place.
