Ruben Amorim believes that Manchester United’s route back to the top must be coated with Old Trafford wins. Theater of Dreams became The Theater of Nightmares last season, with United who lost nine of its 19 home games in the Premier League, admitted 28 goals and scored only 23.

Amorim knows that his team must turn his stadium into a fortress if they will once again challenge at the top of the table – and he revealed that the club’s expenses of £ 210 million to create an attack that will consist of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo was driven by a desire to bring some tensions.

Amorim said: “We have to do it (Old Trafford) to a nice place for our fans. It’s really important. We start with a game against Arsenal, a very good team. Everyone in this room thinks Arsenal will win. I know. But we will be there on Sunday to change things.

“It’s not a mental thing – but it’s not just the players, it’s also the fans. In the (friendly) game against Fiorentina you could feel it. The fans were a little nervous. This feeling you can’t change it in a day or a game. It’s a feeling that we have to fight. Everyone together – the players, the coaches, the fans.

“If you want to win things and be a very strong team, you will have to win games in particular.”

United endured their worst top season for 51 years, with Amorim who could not stop the picture after succeeding Erik Ten Hag in November. Sesko has been signed from RB Leipzig for 73.6 million pounds and 22-year-old Slovak arrival is likely to signal the departure of £ 72 million flop Rasmus Hojlund to Inter Milan.

MBeumo arrived from Brentford in a package of £ 71 million after United started the summer by triggering Cunha’s acquisition clause of £ 62.5 million at Wolves. Amorim believes that his fantastic trio can pell the magic to win games even when his team is second best.

He said: “I know that in some moments we will fight because it is a game against Arsenal. But we are more prepared and I feel we have more players who can help change the game’s speed.

“It gives you confidence. We have more options. If things don’t work well we can change. It gives me more confidence in every game. It is the feeling that even if we fight here and there in the way we play, we can still score.

“Cunha can catch the ball and do something. Bryan can do a drive and be there to score. Such things can help us a lot.”

Amorim believes that he has been able to put his fingerprint on the United Team, with disturbing influence such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho either started out of the club or was banished from the first team. But he insists that the expectation levels remain unchanged.

He added: “Since the first moment the team was my responsibility – and I feel the same thing. I am always under pressure to perform. It is impossible to be here and not feel the pressure every day. I am just more sure we can do it.

“We are ready for the season. We prepared well during the season. Now we start, we will fight, but whatever you see on Sunday we will improve during the season.

“We’re prepared to win against Arsenal – and that’s the only thing that matters.”
