The red devils will host Northern Londoners on Sunday in the heavyweight conflict of Premier League’s opening weekend with the home team to prove that they can take steps forward after a difficult season last time.

Arsenal arrives to improve three consecutive second places. Arteta took over when they were in the lower half but, after some early dental problems, has made them a team that can challenge for awards.

It is now Amorim’s mission with those on the red side of Manchester who spend more than £ 200 million to get the head coach the reinforcements he needs. However, Carragher would be powerful impressed if United could bridge the gap to Arsenal for half a decade.

He wrote in Telegraph: “If United reaches Arsenal’s current level over the next five years – absorb three consecutive seasons competing for the title – Amorim will have performed brilliantly well.”

Arteta, despite the noise around his lack of trophies, has proven to be able to mix it with the best managers on the planet and his next challenge is to show that he can take the shooters to the top of English football. For Amorim even though the jury is still out on him working in England.

Carragher claimed: “The immediate expectation of Arteta is to prove that he can be a premium winner; the immediate expectation of Amorim is to prove that he is a Premier League standard manager.”

Sky Sports Pundit admits that things got so bad last year in Manchester that he wondered if a mutual farewell of ways may have been the best, but the two parties are stuck of each other and there is an acceptance that United’s rebuild will not happen overnight, while Arsenal is under pressure to install a fee directly.

“One side feels like they have the time and space to slowly and steadily improve, while the other is under order to hit the land,” he said.

Being well, Carragher insists that Arteta cannot be under pressure considering how he has turned Arsenal into a team that is consistently challenging for the biggest prices. “No sensible boardroom will think about a coach leading his page into every season who can compete for the best awards,” said the ex-Livepool man.
