Seth Curry has been waived by the Warriors, but is expected to return to the team at the start of the NBA season

Nearly three weeks after signing Seth Curry to a one-year contract, the Golden State Warriors waived him.

The 35-year-old guard, and Stephen’s brother, is not expected to be away from the Bay Area for long. According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Curry is expected to return to the Warriors at some point early in the NBA season.

Curry was waived due to the Warriors’ lack of flexibility with their salary cap. They have $206.3 million committed to their roster, just under the $207.8 million second apron, and can’t meet Curry’s veteran minimum contract.

That means the 15th spot on Golden State’s roster will be empty to start the season.

During the preseason, Curry practiced with the team and traveled with the Warriors on their only trip, inactive for those games.

Curry spent the 2024-25 season with the Charlotte Hornets, where he averaged 6.5 points and 1.7 rebounds, largely off the bench. He became a free agent at the end of the season. If he returns to the Warriors, it would mark the fifth team he has played for in the last five seasons.

It would also mark the first time the Curry brothers will be on an NBA team together. Stephen has been with the Warriors his entire career after they took him with the No. 7 pick in the draft in 2009. The two-time MVP and two-time scoring champion was a linchpin in the Warriors’ dynasty run that won four NBA championships. Last season with the Warriors he averaged 24.5 points and six assists, while averaging a league-high 4.4 3-pointers per game.

Last season the Warriors finished with a 48-34 record and fell in the Western Conference semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons.

Golden State opens the regular season on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
