Everything you need to know as seven players from the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ face the risk of a one-match ban for their respective teams…
- Premier League rules: The FA’s disciplinary rules state that any player who receives five yellow cards in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches in a single season will be handed a one-match suspension. Cards also do not carry over to the EFL Cup and FA Cup, and bans must therefore be served in the Premier League.
- Riccardo Calafiori in danger: Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori faces serving a one-match ban as he heads into Wednesday’s clash with Brentford. The Italian picked up cards against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Chelsea, and another against Brentford will see him miss the Gunners’ clash against Aston Villa on Saturday.
- Conor Bradley on thin ice: Following Jérémie Frimpong’s recent hamstring problems, Conor Bradley has been brought into the team as Arne Slot’s first-choice fullback when fit. However, after finding himself on the referees’ books four times this season, he will need to be on his best behavior going forward. Bradley is currently dealing with his own muscle injury and is not expected to return to the field until the end of the month. Read the full story here.
- Dominik Szoboszlai’s bookings are piling up: Following injuries to Frimpong and Bradley, Slot was forced to use Dominik Szoboszlai as a makeshift right back for much of the season. However, the Hungarian will have to tread carefully against Brentford on Wednesday as he has also been booked four times, and a one-match suspension could prove problematic, given Liverpool are already short at fullback.
- Bernardo Silva is worried: As for Manchester City, Bernardo Silva will have to watch their game against Fulham on Tuesday night, given he picked up yellows against Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds. If he lands two more against Fulham and Sunderland, he will miss City’s clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday, December 14.
- Gianluigi Donnarumma on fragile ground: Elsewhere, Gianluigi Donnarumma has played an important role for Manchester City since his summer move from PSG, but he could make way for James Trafford if he is booked against Fulham. The goalkeeper has picked up yellows against Arsenal, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Leeds this season.
- The Manchester United duo on the line: Patrick Dorgu and Casemiro have also received four yellow cards each this season. Casemiro has been Ruben Amorim’s first-choice center midfielder alongside Bruno Fernandes in recent times, and losing him to a one-match suspension could prove problematic as the Red Devils look to find their rhythm. Dorgu has also impressed in a big way, and his absence has also been felt at Old Trafford.
