Sinner’s coach looks at Alcaraz: “I hope one day we’ll be better than him”

Darren Cahill is one of the architects of  Jannik Sinner‘s success, helping guide the young Italian to the title at the 2024 Australian Open. Proud of what his player has done, the Australian says  Carlos Alcaraz is an inspiration… and explains that Sinner is still chasing after Carlitos.

“There is no doubt that seeing young people succeed gives everyone strength. Not just Jannik. If they see one of their compatriots or someone from their generation succeeding, they want that too. Carlos was a pioneer for many young people and we are grateful for that. It is a pleasure to watch him play. We aspire to be as good as him and I hope that one day we will be better. But right now we are chasing Carlos and we will continue to do so”, he said.

Still, Cahill is thrilled with the raw material he has.  “We believe in Jannik, we always have. He’s a special guy. When you hit the ball like he does, when you want to improve like he does and when you move like he does, eventually you’re going to succeed. Our job as coaches is to accelerate that as much as possible and get him where he wants to go quickly so he can be at the top for a long time. But he’s not going to settle, he wants to improve,   he said.
