Arsenal and Chelsea will face each other on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League in a huge top-of-the-table clash.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit top of the table ahead of nearest rivals Man City after a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last time out. Liam Rosenior’s side, on the other hand, came into the match on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge, which saw them fall behind Man Utd in the race for the top four.

The Gunners hope striker Kai Havertz will be fit enough to make the squad after a recent muscle injury picked up in training, while Bukayo Saka is expected to be fit after limping off against Spurs with an ankle problem.

Ben White will be assessed before the match and Max Dowman played for the youth team following an ankle problem. Mikel Merino is out for the remainder of the season with a broken foot.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Arteta shared an update on his squad ahead of the match.

“Not so far (new injuries),” he said. We are waiting for tomorrow, the last training session, to find out if we have one or two available from last week.

“Kai (Havertz) will train tomorrow and then we will see (if he is fit to face Chelsea).”

Reece James is in good form, while Romeo Lavia is also pushing for more minutes.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is also out with a hamstring injury, while back-up goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen faces a late test to be fit. Dario Essugo, Levi Colwill and Mykhailo Mudryk remain absent for a long time.

Rosenior drops team news update

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Rosenior provided an update on his team ahead of the match.

“Reece (James) is absolutely fine.

“Romeo Lavia is getting stronger and stronger. We had a mini training match this week, where he looked really good, which is great for him.

“Estevao, unfortunately, will be out for a little longer but Jamie Gittens is progressing very well in terms of rehabilitation.

“Cucurella is progressing very well but he won’t be available on Sunday. I hope we get him back as soon as possible.

“Levi (Colwill) is doing very well with his long-term rehabilitation and Dario Essugo is also back on the training pitch. Hopefully we can get all these players back fit and on the pitch before the end of the season.”
