Hubert Hurkacz recently returned to competition after a long break, which he devoted to calm training. The Pole’s first appearance on clay courts this year was the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid, where he unfortunately dropped out after the first match. Now the 28-year-old will certainly try to achieve a better result in the competition of the same rank in Rome.
Our tennis player was seeded in the Italian capital with the number 30. Because of this, he had a bye in the first round. He will start the competition in the next stage, in which he will face the Spaniard Pedro Martinez.
It was known that the Pole would play his first match in Rome on Saturday, May 10. After publishing the schedule for that day, we also know when to expect our tennis player on the court. The match between Hurkacz and Martinez should start around 1:00 p.m.
The Pole showed last season that he is getting better and better at clay courts. This was evidenced by his result in Rome, where he reached the quarterfinals, beating Rafael Nadal in the opening round. A repeat of this result this year would be a very good achievement.
The winner of Hurkacz’s third-round clash with Martinez could face fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz . For that to happen, the American must first beat his compatriot Marcos Giron on Saturday.
