SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The NFL released a statement Monday saying it will look into New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch and his association with Jeffrey Epstein after his name appeared more than 400 times in files released by the U.S. Department of Justice regarding Epstein.

The statement came before league commissioner Roger Goodell gave his annual state of the league address to kick off Super Bowl week.

“The league is aware of the reports and Steve’s response,” the statement read. “Our office will review the matter to understand the facts.”

Tisch said last week that he knew Epstein and that they “exchanged emails about grown women” and “discussed movies, philanthropy and investing.” But Tisch, 76, denied going to Epstein’s island and was never charged in the investigation.

Epstein killed himself in a New York cell in August 2019, a month after he was indicted on federal sex trafficking charges.

The documents were released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the law enacted after months of public and political pressure that requires the government to open its files on the late financier and his confidante and ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.
