The owners of the NBA ask for a new study on expansion, no time sequence for the cities to choose from or anything else

Las Vegas – Adam Silver took him a step forward, the next step towards the expansion of the NBA. It seemed that the existing owners of the NBA puster the brakes on that idea.

What the League will do now is a more in -depth study, said Adam Commissioner of the NBA Adam Silver at the completion of the meeting of the Board of Governors of the NBA. There is no time sequence for the completion of this study, not to mention the time for the choice of cities: Seattle and Las Vegas remain the clear nonsense – or for the new owners to buy at any price it becomes the price or for the teams to start playing.

“It’s really the first day of that analysis, and therefore in terms of price, potential times, it’s too early to say it,” Silver said.

While the momentum that builds towards the expansion of the NBA is still there, this new step in the process seems like a setback to a fan base in Seattle who is waiting for the championship to return. It also seems that some owners want to slow down everything, even if silver would turn it as deliberate.

“In the end, the League’s office was commissioned by our Council to make an in -depth analysis of all the issues related to expansion, both economic and non -economic,” Silver said after the meeting of the Board of Directors. “Of course, non -economic issues include dilution of talent, as could potentially influence competition throughout the league …

“The economic issues, as we knew, would have been the case of these discussions between the Council, are very complex because of how you potentially appreciate the opportunity has a lot to do with your projections on the future growth of the League. Because you are selling fairness and for every additional team you add, you are diluting the economy of the current League.”

The economic factors are complex, including the challenge that most of the League faces in finding good local transmission solutions to show their games to their local fans. Then there are franchising assessments: the Celtics recently sold for an evaluation of $ 6.1 billion and the Lakers have sold for an evaluation of $ 10 billion. How much is an expansion franchise now and what will be worth going on?

These economic factors can be processed if the owners want it, but is there an appetite among the 30 owners existing to be expanded?

“I think the appetite in the room I would call more as curiosity and more how we do the job,” Silver said. “I think if I were an owner, in the end what you are taking into consideration, is this additive to the League? And the additive can be measured in many different ways. There is an economically additional, but I think you are also thinking from a competitive point of view, how would the particular markets have an impact on our national imprint?”

In the past Silver has suggested that he thinks that the League should expand, but in the end he works for the owners and if they want to go slowly, if there is no consensus to go on, then silver is the boy in charge of being the face of the decision to study him more.

Seattle (a lock to get a team) and Las Vegas are the greatest franchises of the League, but other cities and entities have contacted the championship. That type of energy is good for the League, which would like to set a high price and have enough request to meet him.

What is that price? What are those cities? When will that decision be made? The League will study in depth, but it will take some time, and all this process will proceed slowly until then.
