Sporting Lisbon have rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid ace Morten Hjulmand. The Danish ace was believed to be an Arsenal fan who admired Patrick Vieira when he grew up.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas recently revealed they rejected an approach from Atletico, saying: “We’re talking about hypothetical scenarios. Hjulmand is still a Sporting player. We received an offer from Atletico Madrid, which we rejected. It’s a long way from the value we want.

“We have established a fair value, appropriate for his age, his position and the years he has spent at Sporting. Both the player and his agents know that value. Anything below it and the player stays.”

This may pave the way for the Gunners to move for Hjulmand, who is believed to be valued at around £43m.
