Transfer news live: Arsenal plot Alvarez bid, surprise Palmer to Man Utd links, Spurs plot move for Liverpool star

Clubs across Europe are entering the final 10 days of the January transfer window as they look to make the final additions before the season’s business end.
Tottenham may have produced the shock of the window so far after it emerged they were preparing a move for Liverpool prop Andy Robertson, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The Scottish captain has been at Anfield since 2017 and has won everything, but lost his starting place this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.
In London, Chelsea are expected to be busy in the final days of the window, with the Blues reportedly eyeing a loan move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Douglas Luiz while trying to complete a deal for promising French defender Jeremy Jacquet.
However, Liverpool could also have entered the race for Jacquet, with the Reds tracking several targets in central defense, including Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven as well as Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.
And while Manchester City appear to have wrapped up their January business following the arrivals of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, their City neighbors are reportedly tracking several midfield targets, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek among those linked following the announcement of Casemiro’s departure at the end of the season.
Elsewhere, Premier League leaders Arsenal appear happy with business this month, with Mikel Arteta’s side not expecting to make any additions after Ethan Nwaneri completed his loan move to Marseille.

How Trump’s Greenland Obsession Could Spark a World Cup Boycott
Top officials at FIFA and UEFA are “very concerned” about the potential impact of US interest in Greenland on the World Cup and football in general, sources say, as football federations try to overcome a diplomatic crisis.
There have been no official meetings or public statements. Instead, everyone turns to FIFA president Gianni Infantino and wonders exactly what he is thinking. This is a consequence of the fact that the federation is structured around a central figure; in a way that means it may not have the right governance to deal with the upheavals wrought by Trump. If it seems absurd that this is all one man’s responsibility, that’s how the system was designed. FIFA is not the place for constructive debate.

Arne Slot provides update on Ibrahima Konate and Federico Chiesa absences ahead of Bournemouth match
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed he could be without five members of his first team for the match against Bournemouth, with Federico Chiesa and Ibrahima Konate likely to be absent.
The Reds head into the weekend off the back of an impressive 3-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League in midweek, with Joe Gomez replacing Konate, who was absent due to a family bereavement.
“I have spoken to him several times and these are private matters and it should remain that way,” Slot said of the Frenchman.

Brighton could loan Coppola, says Hurzeler
Fabian Hurzeler has admitted Diego Coppola could leave Brighton on loan during the transfer window to boost the defender’s hopes of being selected for Italy at this summer’s World Cup – if he qualifies.
“It’s a 50-50 situation,” Hurzeler said. “Copps may be a player, but we really enjoy working with him.
“There is a World Cup coming, but I am sure that in the future he will be an important player for us. But we have to analyze what is best for the club and the player’s individual development.”

Mikel Arteta allays fears of Kai Havertz injury setback at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has revealed Kai Havertz is “very close” to being fully fit after an injury flare-up sparked fears the striker could be sidelined for another spell.
Havertz spent the first half of the season with a serious knee problem, but having returned to the fold at the start of the year, concerns remain over his long-term fitness.
The Germany international also underwent surgery to repair a torn hamstring last February, but Arteta remains adamant that Havertz is close to completing his rehabilitation and putting his knee problems behind him.

Toth signs for New Bournemouth ready to start this weekend
Andoni Iraola is ready to throw new Bournemouth signing Alex Toth into the deep end when the Cherries host Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.
The 20-year-old midfielder left Ferencvaros on a five-and-a-half-year contract earlier this week and looks likely to make his Premier League debut against the reigning champions in Saturday’s teatime kick-off.
Bournemouth boss Iraola told a press conference: “He’s definitely available. It’s probably not a situation where we’ll give him a bit more time to train, to explain more things.
“In the situation we are in at the moment, he has to be ready because we will definitely need him. I feel he came here with the hunger to show his level and I hope he helps us as soon as possible.
“Sometimes it’s hard to do it right away, sometimes it’s a little too rushed. He arrives in good physical condition and he’s available and ready for whatever we’re looking at. I hope he does well.”

Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and why the big strikers are struggling
Earlier in 2025, Manchester United were stunned when told a deal for Benjamin Sesko could be agreed. This was because they were among the many clubs who fully expected the Slovenian to go to Arsenal. That was the word for over a year.
It is rather Viktor Gyokeres who occupies the position of Arsenal striker. Or at least he kept it busy. Gyokeres’ superb goal against Inter Milan couldn’t have been more timely, as Gabriel Jesus scored twice to strengthen the debate that the Brazilian should be Mikel Arteta’s starting number 9.
The fact that Sesko was the alternative, however, is no longer part of this debate. The younger striker endured similar difficulties.
