Transfer news LIVE: Bryan Mbeumo medical, Liverpool done deal, Arsenal hijack Spurs | Football | Sport
Arsenal icon Charlie Nicholas believes the club are just two signings away from competing for next season’s Premier League title.
“MartIn Zubimendi is a solid signing and a great option as a so-called ‘perfect six’, especially as Thomas Partey is going,” Nicholas told Sky Bet.
“I still think we need another defender, but we don’t know if the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko will stay.
“We should have enough cover with Miles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori when he’s fit.
“One more midfielder and a top striker are crucial, and if Gabriel Martinelli leaves, that adds another wide player to the equation.
“Liverpool have made strong moves, particularly with players like Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, so Arsenal must respond because Liverpool currently has the favourites tag.
“As it stands right now, we’re two players away from competing – three if Martinelli departs.”
