The opposition

While we lost our first four matches before winning against Bayern last time out, Club Brugge had opposite fortunes, winning their first four matches before losing in their fifth match.

Laurens Goemaere’s penalty in the 53rd minute gave Bruges points on the opening day against Monaco. This was followed by a brace from Jessie Bisiwu to defeat Atalanta 2-0 in Italy. Blauw-Zwart’s superb start to this year’s Youth League continued with a 3-0 win in Germany against Bayern Munich before reaching their fourth straight finish with a 2-0 win over reigning champions FC Barcelona.

Their streak was interrupted last time out, losing 2-1 to Sporting Lisbon. However, these first four victories were enough to see Club Brugge qualify for the next round of the competition.

This form is a marked improvement on the 2024/25 season, when Brugge finished in 31st position with just three points. The last time Brugge reached the round of 16 was in 2021/22, losing to Danish club Midtjylland in the playoffs.

Even if we can still score six points, like Monaco, who are in 22nd place, they will face Galatasaray, 29th, who are one point ahead of us in the standings with four points. As both teams cannot lose, we will be mathematically just below one of these opponents if we win all three points in Belgium.
