Update on Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors and updates on Giddey, Thomas, Grimes Limited Free Agency

14

The limited free agency is often a brutal point for a player who finds himself. While it sounds great that a player is free to sign a sheet of offer with any team – that his current team has the right to combine – the reality is much more complicated. Players no longer move teams to the free agency (note players tend to be exchanged), so the teams are not accumulating much space on the limit, so few teams can even make a considerable offer. Even if a team has the space of the limit and craves a limited free agent, it generally has to pay in excess to the point that the current team will not correspond. Once the offer sheet has been signed, the new team must sit for 48 hours of first free agency signatures with their money tied until the current team decides to combine or not.

Often stall. There are four in NBA at this moment, all with a similar theme (and in some cases, amounts in dollars). Break.

Jonathan Kuminga

The offseason expectation was that Jonathan Kuminga and the warriors would find a cartel agreement that would bring Kuminga to a new house from Sotto Steve Kerr, and the Warriors would have obtained something in return to help them win now in the era of Stephen Curry. Both parties were ready to separate. Except, no trade gathered.

Sacramento was the most often linked name to Kuminga, but according to what reported it was not even close to being aimed. There is news that the bulls have a certain interest and have spoken to the warriors, but once again there seems to be no traction towards a trade (Golden State does not want Nikola Vucevic to an agreement). According to reports, the Suns had the first discussions on a sign, and they are intrigued by him, but nothing is close because the warriors want a choice of the first round in any Kuminga trade and the Suns do not have capital. Jake Fischer reports.

Kuminga wants an agreement in the four -year range, $ 120 million, $ 30 million per season or more, but the Warriors think more of $ 20 million a year in three years, a contract that could turn over in an exchange at February (or next summer). That’s where the stall is. Last season, Kuminga scored 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game on average, but shot 30.5% from 3 points with a real percentage of .535 shooting, well below the average of the championship.

If, or more likely when, the Warriors and Kuminga resolve this and return to the team with a shorter contract, two things must happen: 1) Steve Kerr only has to trust Kuminga, play heavy minutes and let him play through some mistakes; 2) Kuminga must demonstrate that it deserves those minutes with a level of game in which other teams would be willing to exchange something true value for him.

Cam Thomas

The situation of Cam Thomas became very public this week when the Brooklyn guard played against Ringer’s Zach Lowe for publicly declared what the consent of the championship on Thomas is.

Financially, according to what reported, this is similar to the Kuminga situation: Thomas wants an agreement in the $ 30 million a year, but the nets think more about $ 20 million (the networks currently have about $ 17 million in the limit space and can create up to about $ 25 million renouncing a couple of players with unsecured contracts). Thomas must not like it, perhaps he can change him, but what Lowe said about the perception of his league on him is perfect, and in a world of tax aprons, he will have difficulty obtaining the money he tries from anyone. This is another situation in which, whatever the parts in the end agree, Brooklyn will want to be something that can easily turn over in another trade in the future. Don’t expect this to be solved soon.

Josh Giddey

Josh Giddey put numbers for the Bulls last season, and after the All-Star break he scored 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists for a match for a Chicago team that went 17-10 for that stretch.

See if this seems familiar: Giddey and its representation want about $ 30 million per season, but the direction of Chicago is thinking more of $ 20 million a year (a more negotiable contract). There are also questions throughout the League on the fact that a team can build a contender with Giddey as one of the two best options, because it is not a strong defender and must have the ball in hand to be effective.

Quentin Grimes

This is the least controversial of the exceptional limited free agents: Grimes wants to be a Sixer – he thrived after being exchanged there – and Philly intends to bring him back. The only question is the money, the number and the years for the 25 -year -old and the parties are still negotiating. According to reports, Philadelphia wishes a contract of at least three years.

Grimes in a rotation with Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Vj Edgecombe just designed could be the future in Philly (whatever happens with Joel Embiid and Paul George). This will be solved, it could end up being closer to the training field.
