VJ Edgecombe stands out, Joel Embiid is practiced in the training field of Sixers – NBC Sports Philadelphia
When asked about his first impressions on Vj Edgecombe, Andre Drummond did not first indicate the rebound of the overall choice n. 3 or defensive ribs.
“The first day I saw VJ was immediately struck, because the first thing he asked was only a lot of questions to me,” Drummond said on Friday at the Sixers Media Day. “He even asked me how my day was. It’s like,” What do you think of this, Big Bro? How do you feel about it? ”
“He is a child who wants to absorb knowledge. And he is a talent athlete and he is very, very good. I think he will be very good for us and I am enthusiastic about what will come.”
The first day of the first Edgecombe NBA training field was Saturday. The head of Sixers’ coach Nick Nick Nurse has appointed him and the two -way player Dominick Barlow.
As noted by Drummond, Edgecombe is fully aware of having tons of specific knowledge of the NBA to be earned. The twenty -year -old recently asked teammates how to prepare for the next Sixers’ Presetson trip to Abu Dhabi. EdgeCombe saw the filming of Tyrese Maxey and have surprised themselves of his distance and “muscle memory”. During the summer, he was curious to know “the fouls and physicality”.
“What is legal, what is not legal? It is a game other than college, so I’m just trying to learn the rules,” EdgeCombe said on Friday. “That’s why I ask many questions, especially if I am trying to box (Drummond) about a rebound or something. Small things like that … I’m just trying to learn. I ask questions to everyone – Literally anyone. I ask questions to Justin (Edwards), Jared (McCain), Tyrese, all. I’m just trying to improve.”
As Draft Night, Edgecombe has worked to adapt to various aspects of NBA life. This includes his strength and his conditioning habits. The 6 feet guard-4 said he had earned a little muscles and is up to the 195 to 200 pound range.
“I’m just trying to find a routine and stick to that,” he said. “I raised a lot more, lifting a lot of weight. I am resting a lot. I have to sleep from eight to 10 hours now. I am taking the recovery more seriously, to be honest.”
Edgecombe also aimed at improving its external shots after going to 34 % behind the college line last season.
While it was not a poor or reluctant shooter in Baylor, Edgecombe was completely on board with mechanical changes.
“I had a flat shot at college,” he said. “Now my bow is really good than where it was a month ago … and simply more coherent. It is crazy that now it is rare for me to shoot slowly. Now I know when my shot is flat.”
In terms of role as a beginner of Edgecombe, Nurse said on Friday that he intends to use it both inside and outside the ball. The nurse can also imagine edgecombe “play about three” and generally be part of heavy formations that play a high energy and frenetic style.
Whatever the assignment, Edgecombe seems to roll us (and will ask for everything you have to know).
“It’s Basketball, at the end of the day,” he said. “I feel that everyone in the field are interchangeable, so anyone who has the ball can lift it. We have many guys versatile. Sometimes I run, sometimes I’m lifting the ball, sometimes I’m dragging. But I’m only out there trying to make winning play.”
EMBIID in the mix on day 1
Joel Embiid stressed the media day that his health is a daily issue.
He shot the following sweaters on the first day of Camp and Nurse confirmed that he had taken part in practice.
“He participated,” said the nurse. “Everything from the beginning was live and he was there, participating in that stuff. He didn’t do everything, but he did a lot.
“I think he probably told you how he feels, how he is looking at. He was moving well, playing hard and he had a great spirit out there today.”
An Sixers official said that Trendon Watford (right of the knee tendon) is daily and that Paul George (left knee surgery) made individual training on the field.
