NBA play-in: Coby White 3 and LaMelo Ball’s layup push the Hornets into the OT thriller past the Heat
While Charlotte’s sharpshooting duo of LaMelo Ball and Kon Knueppel have cooled off, Coby White has not.
The trade deadline acquisition for the Hornets forced overtime with a 3-point shot that sparked a 127-126 overtime victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. Then Ball bounced back from a poor shooting night and a late miss to seal the win in overtime with a go-ahead layup in the final seconds.
With the victory, Charlotte advances to the second round of the NBA play-ins with a playoff spot at stake. Miami’s season is over.
Announcement
With the game on the line and a 3-point deficit in the final seconds of regulation, Charlotte benched Knueppel, who led the NBA with 3-pointers this season. Charlotte instead organized a play for White, who entered the fourth quarter shooting 4 of 5 from 3.
He delivered with his fifth 3-pointer on an unlikely turnaround shot with a hand in his face.
The shot ultimately forced overtime, where Charlotte prevailed for the win on Ball’s late shot.
