Piero Hincapie actually made Arsenal history on his Premier League debut

Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie had to wait until matchday nine to make his Premier League debut for the club.

Hincapie completed his loan move to the Emirates with moments to spare in what was a busy day for Arsenal.

The 23-year-old’s N5 career did not start as hoped as Hincapie struggled with injury, but he returned in week nine to make his Premier League debut.

Arsenal fans liked what they saw from Hincapie during his brief time on the pitch against Crystal Palace, a game that made history thanks to the defender’s introduction.

When Mikel Arteta introduced the Bayer Leverkusen loanee in the 82nd minute, he became the first Ecuadorian to represent Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Arsenal man is not the only one flying his country’s flag in England’s top flight at the moment, with Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo an international teammate of Hincapie’s, as is Brighton’s Jeremy Sarmiento, currently on loan at Cremonese.

Fans will be keen to see more of the new arrival in action as Hincapie is highly rated in the Arsenal squad.

It’s not just at Arsenal that the 23-year-old has admirers, with Owen Hargreaves calling Hincapie a “great player” following his time in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta could make a change at Arsenal training ground thanks to Hincapie

Becoming the first Ecuadorian to play for Arsenal in the Premier League would have been a great honor for Hincapie, a feat that could spark a move at the Sobha Realty training center.

“What a great idea,” said the Arsenal manager.

“If we can, let’s do it, because I think it will be a great representation of what our football club stands for.”

The flag of Ecuador will now be eligible to feature in Arteta’s proposed plan, with Hincapie making history on his debut.
