Tottenham’s January Transfer Window: Two New Signings, £77m Spent, and Seven Departures Expected
With the November international break underway, Tottenham may already be turning their focus to the upcoming January transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad.
Tottenham’s start to the season has been far from ideal, and with the November international break upon us, manager Ange Postecoglou may soon turn his attention to strengthening his squad in the January transfer window.
After 11 Premier League matches, Spurs find themselves in 10th place, with five wins, five losses, and one draw. The team has struggled for consistency, managing just one away win so far this season. Like last year, Postecoglou’s side has faced challenges with consistency as they aim to secure a Champions League spot for next season.
With the team lagging behind in the standings and dealing with some injury setbacks, Tottenham could be tempted to make moves in the transfer market come January. Links to several potential signings have already surfaced, and the club could be looking to bolster the squad for the second half of the season. If Postecoglou is backed in the transfer window, which players might make their way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium? We simulated the 2025 January transfer window to explore the possibilities…
Simulating Spurs’ 2025 January Transfer Window
For this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2024 editor to grant Ange Postecoglou full control over Tottenham’s transfer strategy in the 2025 January window. We then simulated what moves he might make to strengthen his squad. Here’s what happened.

Tottenham’s 2025 January Transfer Window: Incomings and Outgoings
Incomings (£77 million including add-ons):
- Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (Borussia Dortmund) – £41 million (rising to £54 million with add-ons)
- Luka Sucic (Real Sociedad) – £23 million
Ange Postecoglou made it clear from the start of the January transfer window that bolstering his squad would be a priority. Spurs were particularly keen on securing Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz, making four attempts to sign him. However, despite their persistence, all offers were rejected, with the largest bid of £47 million turned down by Los Blancos.
Turning their attention elsewhere, Tottenham successfully brought in Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. The 20-year-old has been in impressive form for Dortmund this season, and Spurs secured his services for £41 million, with the potential for the fee to rise to £54 million with add-ons.
With just days remaining in the window, Postecoglou completed his second and final signing, bringing in Luka Sucic from Real Sociedad for £23 million. The 22-year-old Croatian midfielder has been a standout performer in La Liga this season and is expected to add creativity and depth to Spurs’ midfield.
Outgoings (£16 million including add-ons):
- Djed Spence (Crystal Palace) – £8 million (rising to £13 million with add-ons)
- Will Lankshear (Millwall) – Loan (Six-month loan, £1.6 million loan fee)
- Sergio Reguilon (Girona) – Loan (Six-month loan, £1.4 million loan fee)
- Brandon Austin (Oxford United) – Loan (Six-month loan)
- Damola Ajayi (MK Dons) – Loan (Six-month loan)
- Archie Baptiste (Cheltenham Town) – Loan (Six-month loan)
- Tyrese Hall (Walsall) – Loan (Six-month loan)
The departure market saw a mix of permanent and loan moves. The only permanent sale was Djed Spence, who joined Crystal Palace for an initial £8 million, which could rise to £13 million with add-ons. A number of players, mostly younger talent, were sent out on loan to gain first-team experience.
Striker Will Lankshear, highly rated within the club, joined Millwall on a six-month loan deal, while full-back Sergio Reguilon moved to Girona on a similar arrangement in search of more playing time.
Goalkeeper Brandon Austin was loaned out to Oxford United, with Alfie Whiteman stepping up as third-choice goalkeeper for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, youngsters Damola Ajayi, Archie Baptiste, and Tyrese Hall all went out on loan to clubs in League One and League Two to continue their development.
Overall, Postecoglou’s January window was a mix of strategic signings and development-focused loans, with £77 million spent on two key additions to the squad.
