The players from both teams were in shock, many of them in tears. The tension and fear over Bove’s condition were evident from the first moments after he collapsed and was taken to hospital in an ambulance five minutes later. There were also moments of anger at the time: Luca Ranieri, Bove’s teammate, grabbed one of the doctors on the pitch for not acting quickly.
The official announcement of the match’s postponement was announced over the stadium’s public address system at 18:35, around 20 minutes after the incident. Lega Serie A confirmed it on its official website: “The match will not be resumed and will be postponed to a later date. With the ball stopped, Bove fell to the ground and the situation immediately became very serious.” David De Gea posted a message on X, “God, please” , which perfectly identifies the feelings of all Italian football fans in these minutes.
Sky Sport journalist Fabio Caressa said at 18:40 that “Bove has not yet regained consciousness, but is breathing on his own.” At 19:00, the first positive news about his condition came from the Careggi hospital: Bove regained consciousness. According to the ANSA agency and Corriere dello Sport, the midfielder had suffered an epileptic attack that caused him to have a cardiac arrest on the pitch.
